Fatima M. Ayeq is poet who was born and raised in Selqeen, Idlib Governate in the north of Syria, but was forced to leave her town because of the civil war that has been going on for more than eight years. She first fled to Turkey, then moved to Germany, where she was accepted as a refugee.

Fatima’s poetry, written in Arabic, is full of pain and suffering. It is about a country, that has been torn by war, children who have died or been orphaned, people who have become homeless, cities and villages that have been destroyed and deserted. It is also about her passionate longing for her homeland, her family and friends.
