Karen Compton-Ward was raised by her mother with her mother’s side of the family. She never questioned if she belonged in the family or ever felt like she didn’t belong. Her birth parents split up in early 1971 due to her father’s repeated unfaithfulness to her mother. Once her birth parents split up, Compton-Ward’s mother moved her and her little brother Kevin to the Washington Park Projects on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois. There is where Compton-Ward’s baby brother, Kurt was born in 1972.
